Theater For Women

Why I do it.

Six years ago my husband told me that kosher entertainment, women performing for women, using Torah topics or Jewish values, can be a kiddush Hashem and keep women positive, healthy and balanced.  So he encouraged me to write something for the women of our community to perform. Although I had never written anything before, I enjoyed the challenge, so I wrote something. We performed it on Purim in Jerusalem. Since we celebrate Shushan Purim, it was the perfect day. After the performance I was swamped with requests to accept them for my next years play (which I had no intention of writing!). However an idea popped into my head and the research began. And one year later, we were performing again to an even bigger crowd. Each year has been the same since. All my plays are historical fiction. I include true stories incorporated into each play. I research a topic for six to eight months. Usually by the time I start writing I have a very good idea what the play is about. Then I start writing. This takes around two months. Before I finish writing the play we have auditions and then we rehearse for  two  to three months. All the proceeds go to Bircas Ha Torah. The Rosh ha Yeshiva  Rabbi Shimon Green, is a teacher renowned for his ability to share his delight with G-d's world and Torah, in a way that is deep, refreshing, inspiring, and fun.
